Edinburgh-based Bitcoin start-up Zumo sponsored the Scottish national football team during the exciting Euro 2020 qualifier against Serbia on Thursday.
Zumo became the only Scottish brand to support the national side, with advertising space at football matches typically going to more established global companies.
Nick Jones, Zumo founder and CEO, said that Zumo decided to invest in the game, which eventually ended in a Scottish victory, as a point of principle.
Congrats Scotland! 🏴
What a match, and what a victory at penalty shootout tonight.

He added: “It’s unusual for a start-up to get involved in this kind of advertising but we wanted to be with the team on the night! We want to raise the profile of Scottish brands in the world and show our support for our national sports teams. We are completely delighted that Scotland qualified, we never doubted them!
“It’s a really emotional win because this year has been so so hard for so many people in Scotland just as it has for people all over the world in 2020. We’re looking forward to the next game at Hampden in June. See you there!”
Zumo is a crypto payments app that launched earlier this year following investment from the likes of Coldplay star Guy Berryman and Murray Capital.
